Why Donate to the Skeptics Society? Your donations help the Skeptics Society keep science at the forefront of our country’s discourse. On TV, radio, and the internet, in national magazines and at universities, the Skeptics Society has been providing a scientific viewpoint on a wide range of controversial issues.

Donations make this happen. Without your support, we couldn’t send Dr. Shermer around the country to discuss and debate paranormal and science controversies. Without Dr. Shermer’s voice on television and radio, in lecture halls and magazines, your rational point of view would be sorely lacking in public discourse. When you see us presenting the skeptical side of the argument, you are seeing your donation dollars at work.

To give you an idea of the wide range and busy schedule of the Skeptics Society’s public appearances, here is a taste of some of our recent activities:

  • 20 television appearances, including a John Stossel ABC special, CNN with Anderson Cooper (Mexican UFO sighting, UFOs, Conspiracies), a PBS documentary The Question of God, Penn & Teller’s Bullshit!, and three appearances with Dennis Miller.
  • 16 radio appearances including NPR’s nationally broadcast show The Connection, as well as on local shows throughout the US.
  • Spoke at 17 universities and colleges in 11 states.
  • Presented at 12 festivals, conferences or workshops, including at the Esalen Institute, the Los Angeles Times Book Festival, the Philosophical Club (hosted by comedian Steve Martin), and the Mind Matters Conference in Italy.

We host the Skeptics Distinguished Lecture Series at Caltech, make bookstore appearances up and down the West Coast, publish monthly “Skeptic” columns in Scientific American, and produce our weekly newsletter, eSkeptic, which keeps you abreast of the latest developments in science and culture.

As a member-supported 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, your support keeps the Skeptics Society in the business of investigating pseudoscientific theories and fraudulent claims. In fact, we can’t do it without you. Many members choose to support the Skeptics Society with financial contributions above and beyond their membership fee — please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us further our goals and accomplishments.
