Holy Princess Diana’s Ghost! Meh.

by Sharon Hill on January 18, 2012 at 7:15 am

Is this image Princess Diana’s ghost or an optical illusion?

A video has emerged which appears to show a ghostly-looking figure resembling Princess Diana in a stained glass window.

The video was shot by Chinese tourists in Scotland and has been described by paranormal writer Michael Cohen – who was sent the video – as one of the “clearest” paranormal images he has come across.

Michael Cohen said: “The footage is currently being examined by myself and other researchers to ascertain if it is a genuine ghost capture. It might be a bizarre optical illusion, but then again, it could be a ghost – possibly Princess Diana’s.

Tip: Fortean Times

It is clear. I recognized the image right away. In the video, it is there but then fades away. Is a ghost? How would we even know that? I have a problem with Cohen assuming that there is some standard by which researchers can “ascertain if it is a genuine ghost capture”. What’s the ghost standard? What’s genuine? With today’s ability to manipulate photos and video so easily, this type of evidence is completely worthless. Even if there was no way we could say we knew how a hoaxer did it, we could not assume it was paranormal. All we could say for sure at that point is “I don’t know how it got there.” Since we’ve never established ghosts as real things, we can’t use it as an explanation. It’s a hollow, nebulous, non-explanation. Meanwhile, the back story is concocted to place Diana’s spirit in this location. It actually makes little sense why she would be here after death.

In order to better examine this claim, one would need to see the rest of the video, visit the site to see the actual window and question the video owner to see if there is a clue that it was an illusion or a hoax.
