I never really understand Holocaust deniers.
I live in Poland; here, every history is laced with the Holocaust or WWII. I’ve heard stories from my grandparents and I’ve spoken to one of my uncles, who is missing fingernails but never wanted to tell anyone how. I’ve visited Auschwitz and Birkenau, I’ve walked through what used to be the Warsaw Ghetto.
To put it really simply, it’s hard to believe if you don’t see the real thing. To walk through the gates of Auschwitz that say Abreit Macht Frei, and to see the hanging posts and crematoria, is to believe. The numbers are actually pretty big, I lean toward 6,000,000. In Auschwitz alone they have records of about 1.3 million people dying. There were many more of such camps, which means that AT LEAST 6 million Jews died, if not more (most deaths weren’t documented). Also don’t forget all the communists, gypsies, Poles, homosexuals, and other minorities that were targeted by Nazis.
Plus, who would ever go through all the effort to forge hundreds of thousands of pictures of the Holocaust?

Michael, you sometimes hand Holocaust Deniers ammunition yourself. Like in that video, where you refused to tell that emotional lady that she could not have seen soap being made from Jews, presumably because you thought it ungentlemanly. Or in another video I watched, where you stated that the large amounts of Zyclon-B ordered by the camps proved that people were being gassed, when any respected Historian, even the Jewish ones, will tell you that much more Zyclon-B was used to disinfect clothing etc, than is claimed to have been used for killing people. I think you need to make more distinction between Holocaust Denial, and genuine revisionism. For example, how can David Irving be a Holocaust Denier when the last time I heard him speak, on a video produced in 2009, he was claiming that 2.5 million people had been murdered in just four of the camps, i.e., Belzec, Treblinka, Sobibor, and Madjaneck. I have just finished reading a book called “The Final Solution”, by Gerald Reitlinger, the 1968 revised edition. His estimate of the death toll was between 4,204,400 and 4,575,400. Would that have qualified him as a Holocaust Denier (if that term had been invented then), as the generally accepted figure at the time was 6,000,000 based on the official estimate of 5,700,000?

The photograph of burning bodies offered as proof is well known and thoroughly debunked. The hole in the roof story has been rescinded by holocaust authorities. It seems that the actual characteristics of zyklon B prohibit such an application. I believe that the “Kula column” gassing device is the story currently in vogue. However, I’ve not really kept up with the latest holocaust claims so the “Kula columns”, like the electric jew-dunking tilt-a-whirl, may also have fallen by the wayside. As Gerald says about the “evidence”, there’s too much of it.

And, by the way, Romania recently unveiled a $7 million memorial to Jewish and Gypsy victims of the Holocaust that occurred in Romania. For years after the end of WWII Romania denied the existence of the Holocaust. Not any more though. The evidence was simply too strong, too much of it.

How is there no way to know that mass genocide “really happened”? That’s not only just stupid, it’s ignorant! There is a Jewish holiday devoted to remembering the Holocaust, there are written accounts of from WWII veterans who liberated camps, and there is photographic evidence.
I guess that’s one bit of human nature I will never understand as a psychologist.
