I love Dawkin's concise and clear explanations of evolutionary theory in his numerous books. However, I wouldn't ask a theologist about the scientific merits of evolution, so I am mistrustful of Richard Dawkins expertise on religion. It is not an area he has studied or knows much about. Wilson (as an atheist) has at least taken the time to sympathetically study various religions as human behavioural phenomena, and come up with an evolutionary theory based on actual research, not just on invective!

The research (by Wilson and others) shows religion is beneficial, not just to the adherent, but in acts of generosity towards other people. It is no harmful "meme virus". The task for theology it seems is now to make the claims of religion realistic e.g. God as the unity behind diversity, not some paranormal management super-entity.

The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.
