I'm surrounded by the willfully ignorant, people close to me.....most of the time I watch, mouth agape as they go about their (in my opinion) silliness.
I told a co-worker, who believes that prayer "works" to try a little experiment. When his prayers went unanswered I asked him if he still believed that prayer works, his answer, "Yes".

As for maintaining a desire to convince the ignorant.....
the key is "Expectations".
I have low expectations of most people to whom I talk....some I don't bother wasting my breath.
You can't go to Denny's and expect a gourmet meal.

I will, if forced to by a recalcitrant theist, argue briefly. And devastate him in short order. But the result is always, "thus convinced against his will, he is of the same opinion still."
How do you maintain your desire to convince the willfully ignorant?
