this Skaught dude probably never read Sagan's book Cosmos. Yeah he criticizes Velikovsky, but at the same page he says "We can't supress his ideas" like a lot of people did in the past.
Get your facts straight.

As far as I can tell, nobody has claimed Carl Sagan was a saint who was super-nice to everyone. Rather, he was a scientist and lover of science, who promoted scientific thinking among a wide audience. Whether Sagan was impeccably pleasant and polite to a man who used *mythology* as the starting point of his scientific inquiries is really irrelevant to his overall contribution to the world.

Clear view, indeed.

I am one of those many thoughtful people who look at Sagan's so-called legacy as deeply flawed by his ego and his scientific "politics." One need only look into his leadership in villifying Immanuel Velikovsky, whose work was certainly vulnerable to scrutiny, to realize that Sagan was more concerned with protecting his precious turf than allowing an "outsider" to express a worthwhile. if arguable, viewpoint.

Just read: http://www.velikovskian.com/sagan.htm and you'll have one clear view of the real Carl Sagan.

We as a species must venture into space if for nothing more then the preservation of our species. Sagan made it clear in his series Cosmos how possible it would be to travel great distances, all we need is a will as a species. The greatest rewards await us!

Perhaps he should have appealed to the human greed and had a motto "One planet for one human family".

Then perhaps our space exploration would have sped up and we would leave the pale blue dot behind.
