Right now, we are all confronting one of humanity’s scariest enemies: epidemic disease. Are we brave enough to face this horror? You bet we are! We’ve done it every day during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Covid is new. Other diseases have plagued our ancestors since ancient times. Mighty civilizations have been devastated by the invisible invaders we call “germs.” But people are not helpless! Over centuries, we learned how to fight back against disease. Our strongest weapons are science and critical thinking. However, germs have a powerful ally: misinformation! How do ignorance and bad ideas help the germs win—and what can we do about that? Let’s find out! In this free issue of Junior Skeptic we cover:

  • Mindless Enemies
  • Plagues of the Ancients
  • Empires and Epidemics
  • Scientific Facts about Bubonic Plague
  • The Black Death
  • Fighting the Plague
  • Fighting Smallpox on American Soil
  • The Spanish Flu
  • Fighting Diseases Today
  • Defeating Covid-19

RECAP OF SPAS 001—005

Social & Political Attitudes Study

Data and evidence are the bedrock of a skeptical and scientific worldview. With a convergence of data and evidence, we can reason our way to smarter solutions, more rational institutions, more ethical policies, and brighter futures. To contribute to this endeavor, the Skeptic Research Center (SRC) releases short reports that address a single issue or question. In case you missed our first five reports in the Social & Political Attitudes Study (SPAS), here they are again, along with the questions they were inspired by:

  1. SPAS-001: “Are Democrats more divided than Republicans?”
  2. SPAS-002: “Is political party identification associated with tolerant attitudes towards individuals with different political views?”
  3. SPAS-003: “Are there attitudinal differences between those who are tolerant versus intolerant?”
  4. SPAS-004: “Do attitudes towards inequality differ by political party affiliation?
  5. SPAS-005: “Do attitudes about language differ by political party affiliation?”

We will release SPAS-006 on Friday, August 21.

About the SRC

The Skeptic Research Center (SRC) is a collaboration with qualified researchers to release digestible single-topic analyses of proprietary polling and survey data, detailing peoples’ attitudes about the important concerns of our time.

Science is fundamentally a collaborative endeavor. Your contributions, whether concrete (i.e., monetary) or abstract (i.e., ideas) are important to us. There are many ways you can become involved or contribute to the Skeptic Research Center.
