Grand Canyon River Rafting JULY 15—21, 2017

Join geologist/paleontologist Dr. Donald Prothero as he leads us on a once-in-a-lifetime tour through two billion years of Earth history

This will be a unique voyage down one of the greatest natural wonders of the world: rafting down the Grand Canyon for 7 days! Plus, we’ll fly in and fly out, so you’ll see it from the air, too! We will forget about civilization as we float down the lazy river and run amazing rapids in motorized rafts, see some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world, and camp out every night under stars while eating like royalty. We will take short hikes down side canyons as Prof. Prothero explains the incredible geology and scenery, and visit geological sites and fossil localities not available on most commercial raft trips.

Rafting down the Grand Canyon is one of the most amazing trips one can do. It is something that you should not miss! You will leave your valuables in a safe deposit box in your Vegas hotel, and forget about money, electronics, daily hassles, even the time (don’t bother with a watch). We will be on nature’s schedule: rising with the sun, floating all day, stopping at dinner time on a sand bar, and then sitting around the campfire before bedtime. You can completely forget about the outside world, and relax and let all your cares and stress wash away, because you will be at one with nature, and on nature’s schedule.

The Arizona River Runners will supply two motorized rafts (no paddling on our part!), and all the equipment you need other than your clothes and personal items. Plus, they are the very best at safely navigating the rapids. The rapids will keep the trip interesting and exciting, but they are no real danger to you. The crew will prepare incredible breakfasts, lunches and dinners each time we stop for a meal! All you need to do is relax on the raft and enjoy the ride.

Cost and What’s Included

The total trip cost is $3892 per person. The cost covers a shuttle from the Desert Rose Resort in Las Vegas to the airport for a flight to the Marble Canyon entry point, a helicopter ride out of the canyon at Whitmore Wash to Bar 10 Ranch on Day 7, and a return flight to Las Vegas and transportation back to the hotel, experienced river guides, two dry bags, camp chair, tent, cot, pillow, sleeping bag (with sheet), daily meals (prepared in a camp kitchen), snacks, water, electrolyte replenishment drinks, sodas, Arizona River Runners insulated cup, and renowned geologist/paleontologist Dr. Donald Prothero leading geological and historical discussions about the canyon.

There is no trip like this anywhere on the planet! There will be only two rafts on this trip, and one of them is nearly sold out already, so there are only about a dozen slots left to fill. Hurry and respond right away if you want to be included!

Donald Prothero

Dr. Donald Prothero taught college geology and paleontology for 35 years, at Caltech, Columbia, and Occidental, Knox, Vassar, Glendale, Mt. San Antonio, and Pierce Colleges. He earned his B.A. in geology and biology (highest honors, Phi Beta Kappa, College Award) from University of California Riverside in 1976, and his M.A. (1978), M.Phil.
