About Science Salon

Science Salon is a series of conversations between Dr. Michael Shermer and leading scientists, scholars, and thinkers, about the most important issues of our time.

Science Salon is hosted by Dr. Michael Shermer: the Publisher of Skeptic magazine, the Executive Director of the Skeptics Society, a monthly columnist for Scientific American, and a Presidential Fellow at Chapman University where he teaches Skepticism 101. He is the author of Why People Believe Weird Things, Why Darwin Matters, The Science of Good and Evil, and The Moral Arc. His new book is Heavens on Earth: The Scientific Search for the Afterlife, Immortality & Utopia.

Audio Podcast & Live Stream Video

Science Salons are streamed live on the day of the event, and archived for viewing afterward. An audio podcast version is also available for every Science Salon via iTunes, Spotify, Google Play Music, Stitcher, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, and Soundcloud.

Advance tickets required

Tickets are $50 per individual and include the lecture, an autographed copy of the guest’s book, hors d’oeuvres and wine. Purchase tickets in advance by calling the Skeptics Society office at 1-626-794-3119. Seating is limited. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Social

As traditional with European salons, there will be time after for socializing with drinks and hors d’oeuvres. This opportunity for intimate conversation between the speaker and the audience allows more interaction with the guest than a formal Q&A. Plus, you never know what other scientists and celebrities might just show up for these unique gatherings!

Venue

The salons will be held at a magnificent and architecturally award-winning home in the hills overlooking the San Gabriel mountains of Southern California, with balconies that allow for stimulating conversations with the guest and fellow skeptics while taking in the views. A map with the address of the venue will be emailed to you after you purchase your ticket(s). Dress code is casual.
